There are two main parts of SEO (search engine optimization)…on page and off page.
On page has to do with the content you’re trying to rank.
And off page has to do with other properties pointing to the property you’re trying to rank, which pass “link juice” and social proof and helps boost the authority of the piece of content you’re wanting to rank.
Backlinks or links from other sites to your content are basically “votes” in the eyes of Google and YouTube.
And the more “votes” your content has, especially votes from other authority and highly relevant websites and properties, boosts the ranking of that content within the search engines.
If you’re targeting longer tail keywords you’re generally going to have very little competition to begin with.
But if you’re going after slightly more competitive keywords and you’re wanting to appear at the top of page one in YouTube search you may need to boost your video a little.
But if you’ve tried this and your content still isn’t ranking you might need some more powerful links.
Services like The HOTH Blitz offers high powered PBN links that you can point at your videos.
But I would only invest in these if you’re trying to rank for a keyword that is potentially very profitable, otherwise the more affordable social bookmarks should be plenty to give your videos the boost they need.
And for the anchor text (the clickable hyperlink text pointing to your videos from other websites) I recommend using a few variations of the main keyword you’re trying to rank for.
So, an example might be:
Main keyword: best teeth whitening product
Other keywords I might use for anchor text for my campaigns (if using a tool like Money Robot or ordering from a service like a Fiverr gig):
best teeth whitening product at walmart
best teeth whitening product available
best teeth whitening product amazon
best teeth whitening products that actually work
best teeth whitening products for smokers
So, those are the basics of off page SEO.
Ensuring your videos ranks highly in the search engines for your target keyword just comes down to giving a little attention to on page and off page SEO.
I would concentrate mainly on optimizing your on page SEO, but if just that alone doesn’t rank you where you want to be, you can start sending some links to your videos to further boost their positions within the SERPs.
